Directed by Nikolay Gorbunov
Opening - 31.01.2009.
This play has nothing to do with space-faring, yet it is tightly connected with a bunch of ideas the Soviet Union was spreadying. "Gagarin Way" is a street's name in one settlement in Scottland. Two workers, Gary, an ideologist and a veteran of working-class movement, and Eddie, who is ready to punch anyone, have planned a protest action against globalisation. According to the plan, Gary should kidnap a Japanese inspector of their factory, and Eddie should bribe the watchman to get rid of him for the period of this action...
"Gregory Burke's debut play stunned audiences when it appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (1 to 25 August 2001). Acclaimed by the critics Gagarin Way won a Fringe First, the Best of the Fringe First Awards and The Scotsman Readers' Favourite Award. At the Royal National Theatre, following a sell-out run, it was named one of the best plays of 2001 by The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Observer and Mail on Sunday.
Gregory Burke won the 2001 Critics' Circle Award for 'Most Promising Playwright' for this play. Gagarin Way was nominated for the 'Best New Play' award at the 2002 Olivier Awards." /Source/
